De Oranje route vanaf startpunt Heiloo loopt langs een aantal grote vijvers in het recreatiegebied De Noorderneg. Deze vijvers zijn ontstaan tijdens de aanleg van de Zeeweg rond 1850. De verbindingsweg tussen Heiloo en Egmond werd aangelegd als werkverschaffingsproject en loopt dwars door de strandvlakte.
