Driemond is located in the Gemeenschapspolder area at the confluence of three rivers: the Gein, the Gaasp and the Smal Weesp. Originally the Smal Weesp was a tributary of the River Vecht, but the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal has intersected this connection since the 19th century. The Diemerbos park was planted in the Gemeenschapspolder in the 1990s. The area along the railway line is wet and an open park, so boots are a good idea for this walk. The historic open meadow landscape is preserved near Driemond. This is where the Gaaspermolen path leads from the edge of the park to the Gaaspermolen.

  • The Gaaspermolenroute or Gaasper Mill Route (red) explores the southern edge of the Diemerbos. First past allotments, then a bit of park, to walk to the old mill on the Gaasp river via a meadow path and cycle path.
  • The Moerasbosroute or Marsh Forest Route (orange) is an extension of the red route. It heads deep into the marsh forest and then curves back to return in Driemond via the Gaaspermolen windmill. Take into account there will be wet, marshy paths. At selection point 22, you can opt for a 'grey' Staatsbosbeheer (Forestry Service) boot path to selection point 27.
  • The Boerenlandroute or Farmland Route (purple) heads west a bit before the orange Marsh Forest Route and includes part of the forest on the other side of the A9. You return via the paved dike road along the Gaasp.
  • The Weespersluisroute or Weespersluis Lock Route (yellow) is a trip to Weesp, the old, fortified town on the Vecht. You cross the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal with views of the busy shipping traffic and barges. On the other side, follow the Smal Weesp stream past the former factory site of the famous Van Houten cocoa factory (1850-1971).

Please note that the whole western part of the Diemerbos on the other side of the A9, with the exception of the play forest, is a dog walking area.
