This circular walk through the Valkkoog polder runs across several pastures, along the Valkkogerdijk and past two breach pools. These deep pools were formed by dyke breaches, after which new sections of dyke had to be built around them by an army of dyke workers. Today they are fringed with reeds and rich in water birds. In 1461, the Nieuwedijk was constructed further north, after which the Valkkogerdijk lost its function as a primary flood defence.
The church of Valkkoog dates partly from the 16th century and partly from the 19th century.
Note: from mid-October to early December there is a small chance that a bull may be grazing in the fields around marker 43. If so, this will be indicated by the farmer at the start of the farm track.
