Starting from Boerenerf Spaarnwoude, with Boerderij Zorgvrij, horticulture Het Groene Leven and restaurant Onder de Platanen, four walking routes depart through Spaarnwoude Park, a varied area of forests, polders, peat meadows, marshes and water. The route has paved and unpaved trails.

  • The Linieloop (orange) passes the Fort north of Spaarndam, an imposing fort for which plans for a new use are under development. At the top of Liniedijkje, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Gruijters' Landje, teeming with water and meadow birds. The route also passes the IJ, the tamed inland sea at Spaarndam.
  • The Velserdijk route (red) will take you past Het Buitenhuis and Villa Zomerdijk, both with outdoor seating. The walk briefly continues along the centuries-old Velserdijk, once tasked with holding back the IJ's salty waters. Near Villa Zomerdijk, the route crosses Zijkanaal B. This tributary of the North Sea Canal is separated from the main shipping channel by a dam and is now used as a canoe track.
  • The Wijkermeertocht (blue) takes you largely over land that was reclaimed a mere 150 years ago. Before that time, the Zuiderzee reached far inland via the IJ and Wijkermeer. Today, hikers can enjoy a view of the golf course (with catering facilities) here. A little further along, the greenery is replaced by the blue of Zijkanaal C, a tributary of the North Sea Canal to Spaarndam.
  • The Rondje Velserbroek trail (purple) crosses Zijkanaal B and the A9 and will take you almost entirely around the Westbroekplas. Continuing through the green veined residential area of Velserbroek, you will return to Boerenerf Spaarnwoude, traditionally known as Zorgvrij.
