The name De Krim is Dutch for Crimea and has to do with the peninsula in the Black Sea. The northern tip of Texel was given this name during the bloody Crimean War (1853-1856). Although this war was taking place far away, it occupied the minds of the people of Texel. The then remote new farms were given names that were in the news, such as De Krim (Crimea), Moskou (Moscow) and Sebastopol (Sevastopol). De Krim is now the name for the area around the holiday park. The surroundings are an attractive mix of rugged dunes, flower-rich grasslands, deciduous forest and colourful bulb fields.
- The Dorpzicht Walk (yellow) was created at the initiative of De Cocksdorp’s village committee and is a beautiful route for villagers, tourists and birdwatchers. The nature reserve along the old Roggesloot tidal creek consists of sparse grasslands rich in flowers. Walkers are treated to the sight of orchids and many meadow and water birds here. The Wadden Sea Dike is not accessible during lambing season and dogs are not allowed. Follow the alternative route over the Stengweg.
- The Around De Krim Route (blue) is a walk of two halves: one half journeys through young forest with lovely views of the bulb fields, while the southern section leads along the edges of the golf course, overlooking marshy grassland and dunes.
- The Eierlandse Dune Walk (red) is an extension of the blue route through beautiful, rugged dune grasslands leading towards the sea. You’re guaranteed to see the characteristic flora and fauna of the barren dunes!
