Starting Point Bloemendaal aan Zee (tourist transfer point) 15 afbeelding

Bloemendaal aan Zee is located at the end of the Zeeweg between Overveen and the coast. The plans for the construction of this road met with a lot of protest 100 years ago. The municipality of Bloemendaal wanted a wide access road with a tramway next to it but the dune owners did not like that idea. In the end, the road was built, albeit without a tramway.

Landscape architect Springer was hired to fit the road into the surroundings. The Zeeweg connects to the Boulevard Barnaart. This name refers to the famous noble family from Haarlem, whose ancestor Willem-Philip was appointed chevalier de l'Empire by Emperor Napoleon in 1813. At that time, the dunes near the sea were used by the French soldiers as a field for drills.

  • The connecting route toward Parnassia (grey) from Bloemendaal aan Zee takes you to the well-known stretch by the sea. This is the starting point for three walking routes in Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. Here you walk through the Kennemerduinen of PWN.
  • The connecting route to Zandvoort (grey) leads you from Bloemendaal aan Zee over the boulevard, with a view of the sea and beach life on one side and the famous race track on the other. You can pick up the orange Circuit Route at the northern edge of Zandvoort. You can also see the yellow posts that mark the PWN’s Wisent Route. This yellow route through the Noordduinen and Kraansvlak is only accessible from 1 September to 1 March. Dogs are not allowed. Pay attention to the access rules at the entrances to the path.
