Bloemendaal is rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage. Dunes, estates, parks and bits of forest are the green lungs in a fairly urbanised area. When in the middle of the Bloemendaalse Bos forest, it’s easy to forget that it is surrounded by residential areas. A posh residential area such as Duin en Daal is also a pleasure to walk through. With all its monumental buildings, it is a protected townscape. Thijsse's Hof is a gem in Bloemendaal. In 1925, the botanical park was a birthday present from the municipality of Bloemendaal to the first Dutch conservationist Jac. P. Thijsse. The botanical park has been a national heritage site since 2015 and is certainly worth a visit.

  • The Thijsse's Hof Walk (red) provides an overview of Bloemendaal with traditional villas, the atmospheric old village and beautiful avenues of trees in the Bloemendaalse Bos. Thijsse's Hof botanical park is located on the route.
  • The Duinlust Route (orange) connects Bloemendaal with Santpoort-Zuid. Beyond the old village you will see elegant residential areas and the Bloemendaalse Bos forest, the Meertje van Caprera lake and the Duinlust park.
  • The Vaart en Duin Walk (green) is a walk in and around Bloemendaal. The route links nature and buildings. You walk past the Schoterveense Molen windmill and over the Sint Jorisveld of the former Ripperda Kazerne cavalry barracks. The paths over the Haarlemse Bolwerken and along the Brouwersvaart are a pleasure to walk along. In Bloemendaal, you pass a series of beautiful villas around the meadow on the Lage Duin en Daalseweg.
