Overveen station is an excellent starting point for beautiful walks. You can walk straight into the dunes from the old station on the winding railway line. Walking past the old water tower, you’ll be in the Kennemerduinen in no time and the Visserspad toward Zandvoort starts at Kraantje Lek. The Brouwerskolkpark is even closer. The walking park on the high inland dunes used to be part of the Belvedère estate. It is named after the gully (kolk) where clean water was obtained for brewing Haarlem beer in the 17th century. The water streamed from the Brouwersvaart to the city.

  • The Brouwerskolk Walk (purple) is a short but rigorous walk through the park of the same name. On easily accessible paths you climb to the Kopje van Overveen. The brick viewing platform on top of the Kopje ensures for a few extra altimeters. The Brouwerskolk is on the other side of the park. A lovely path along the bank leads to the Duinlustweg in Overveen.
  • The Vaart en Duin Walk (green) is a walk in Overveen and surroundings and links green and red together. In Bloemendaal, you pass a series of beautiful villas around the meadow on the Lage Duin en Daalseweg. Through the heart of the village you walk in Haarlem-Noord along the Schoterveense Molen and over the Sint Jorisveld of the former Ripperda Kazerne cavalry barracks. The paths over the Haarlemse Bolwerken and along the Brouwersvaart are a pleasure to walk along.
