The Wijzendweg and Herenweg follow former secondary dykes behind the medieval sea dyke. Until the end of the 16th century, the Zijpepolder was still filled with seawater.

The farm track is closed between markers 56 and 57 from 15 March to 15 June during the breeding season. During this period, the blue route can be followed instead, forming a shorter circular walk along the farm track between markers 56 and 55.

The circular walk runs past the Modderwiel and Dijkstalwiel near the Westfriese Zeedijk or Omringdijk. These pools are silent witnesses to dyke breaches, probably dating from the 16th century. Today they form small protected nature areas with monument status and are characteristic features of the Westfriese Omringdijk.
